OPERATION SANTA CLAUS - Rotarians volunteer to help out an underpriviledged family enjoy a happy Christmas. Families in need of financial assistance are identified by LBUSD and tthe family's needs and wishes are provided. Rotarians then shop for and deliver the presents to the families. More than 60 families were adopted this year.

READING BY NINE - This program was established in 1999 and since then has provided over 150,000 new library books to local students and 62 local elementary school libraries; thousands of books to pre-school students attending Child Development Centers in Long Beach; and contributed books to a variety of local non-profit literacy programs, including those sponsored by the Long Beach Day Nursery, Long Beach Public Library Foundation and the Cambodian Association. Over the years more than $275,000 has been contributed by Long Beach Rotary, its members and our Rotary Charitable Foundation to this innovative literacy program founded by the Los Angeles Times, Scholastic Books and Rotary. Long Beach Rotary has not only placed books in the hands of countless local youths but has received numerous honors for its role in this program.
