Local YMCA receives multiple awards
LONG BEACH

Alan Hostrup
, president/ CEO, YMCA of Greater Long Beach, oversees the operation of five facilities, satellite locations and Camp Oakes in Big Bear. In the early 20th century, the Y provided a get away for men and boys with gyms, pools, dorms and other recreational activities. Af ter WWI they of fered various services for military personnel and their familes, and to this day, it continues to promote its original principles, such as caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. They still of fer many sports, but they now boast an ar ray of pro grams that change with the times and the com mu nity. Di ver sity among mem bers, staff and pro grams ex em pli fies a rel - e vant com mu nity or ga ni za - tion and in fact, they have re ceived nu mer ous lo cal and na tional di ver sity awards for just that.
