LONG BEACH ROTARY SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION PRESENTS $174,800 FOR STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS DURING ‘ROTARY NIGHT AT LONG BEACH STATE’
133 CSULB Students Receive Long Beach Rotary Foundation Scholarships During 2009-2010 School Year

LONG BEACH, CA (February 18, 2010) - Greg Gill, Long Beach Rotary President and Frank Newell, Long Beach Rotary Scholarship Foundation Chair presented a check for $174,800 to CSULB Vice President University Relations and Development, Andrea Taylor. The presentation was made center court at the Pyramid during the men’s basketball game vs. Pacific, Wednesday night.

Long Beach Rotary supports 4 President’s Scholars and 129 students who each receive a $1200 annual scholarship. Rotary members held a pre-game reception at The Pointe to honor this year’s scholarship recipients. Long Beach Rotary, founded in 1917, is the largest and oldest service organization in Long Beach. Rotary also sponsors a service club for students on campus, the Rotaract Club. Members of Rotaract were guests at the reception.

According to Newell, “At Long Beach State during the past 45 years, the Rotary Scholarship Foundation has funded over 2,500 annual student scholarships totaling more than 2.5 million dollars. We also provide $80,000 in annual scholarships to over 100 students attending Long Beach City College.”

Long Beach Rotary Scholarships are available to students from Long Beach Area High Schools who attend Long Beach City College and California State University, Long Beach. Applications for Fall 2010 are available at www.rotarylongbeach.org and are due by April 12, 2010.
