Rotary 101 Prompts RI to Print More Books

I want to give special thanks to Maureen Vaught, Rotary International Senior Editor, Publications Department and Ed Futa, Rotary International General Secretary for realizing the need to print more books for the Rotary 101 program.

The book "A Century of Service" was written and published at the time of the Rotary Centennial to create excitement and encapsulate it's past 100 years, for it's Rotary members enjoyment. Rotary International sold thousands of copies of the book in many languages and in many different formats (book on CD, hard back and leather bound version). What they didn't realize is that the Rotary 101 program was purchasing the books in large amounts too. After the initial sale of books following the Centennial, they were worried about selling the balance of the books themselves. Miraculously, the English language books flew off their shelves in large quantities, until they were all gone.

I met both Maureen Vaught and Ed Futa at the International Convention in Los Angeles and had discussions with them about the Rotary 101 program and the need for more books. To my pleasant surprise they took me and the Rotary 101 program seriously and agreed to print more books. We felt that a paper back version would be sufficient for our needs and keep the cost down. It turned out to be a gorgeous book with the cover sleeve printed directly on the book, its lighter weight and fits perfectly where I want to go. Maureen sent me one of the first paperback copies and I love it, but more importantly is that we can now resume promoting the Rotary 101 program. The books are available at the convention in Birmingham or online at the Rotary store, please click on this link. "A Century of Service"

It goes to show that Rotary 101 is on the radar screen of the mother ship. I can only hope that the clubs who are involved continue with their successes and that we attract more clubs who want to share in this success. Very importantly I hope that Rotary International keeps an eye on how the Rotary 101 program is doing and how we can engage members to become Super Rotarians. Can you imagine where Rotary would be in 3  or 5 years, if Rotary International implemented this program World Wide! Please keep sending me your success stories and feedback so we can improve what we are doing to share it with other Rotary 101 clubs and Rotary International.

Thanks again for the new books, I love them!

Rotary 101 is alive and well in San Clemente, CA

I had a pleasure visiting the San Clemente Rotary Club for their Wednesday lunch. I met with their International Projects Committee prior to their general meeting to discuss the possible participation of the San Clemente Club and the San Clemente Sunrise Club in the Project Amigo grant. (If you are interested in learning more about what Project Amigo does, check out www.projectamigo.org.) They were very excited to see how we partner with other clubs and obtain the maximum leverage from Rotary International through our club donations. They are currently trying to put together a water project in Guatemala and experiencing some difficulties in getting this Matching Grant together. I hope to hear soon on their participation for Project Amigo.

The general meeting for the day was a session or Rotary 101. The presenter started out with a brief review of the chapters that they were covering. He then gave examples of how the topics relate to the San Clemente club. It started out slow and quickly grew into a very interactive discussion. The president had to finally ring the bell or it would have gone on for another hour. I enjoyed staying after the meeting to answer questions and receive compliments of how Rotary 101 has been such a great stimulation for their club.

Ask if you would like me to attend your Rotary 101 meeting!
