Promotion of Long Beach Rotary 101 Course

As one of the most viable clubs in Rotary, the Long Beach Rotary Club is constantly seeking ways to help its members grow and become engaged.

Now entering our fourth class year, I hope you will help to embrace and support this project.  As you know, Rotary 101, is designed to help all of our members become more enlightened about Rotary, in general, and, in particular, the ways Long Beach Rotary can remain a fountain of hope in a troubled world.

The goal is to have fun while learning some new facts about Rotary International and our Long Beach club.   Each class will cover two chapters of the book 'A Century of Service', and the presenter will share information that pertains directly to our club that will enrich your understanding of the value of Rotary.

You may attend one of two 30 minute classes offered each month, just prior to or just following the regularly scheduled meetings.  Each class will be moderated by a well-known and established Rotarian who will serve as the Presenter.  The classes will be held on the Queen Mary in close proximity to our meeting room.

The benefits to you:

·     The chance to learn more about the history of Rotary International and the Long Beach Rotary Club

·     New information about Rotary’s role and service worldwide

·     The opportunity to discuss with fellow members some important issues Rotary is now facing

·     Information that will help you be a better Ambassador for Long Beach Rotary

TESTIMONIALS

HERE’S WHAT SOME OF THOSE WHO HAVE COMPLETED ROTARY 101 HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE:

"Rotary 101 was fun and fascinating and I loved all of it. It made me feel so connected to Rotarians, past and present, as I learned about their accomplishments and amazing contributions. I began the course skeptically and graduated a true believer. It made me so proud to be a Rotarian."

"Often we join an organization we know very little about. This certainly was the case with me when a few years back a friend of mine talked me into joining the Rotary Club of Carson City."

"I was a member of that club for couple of years yet, while there, I learned very little about the history of Rotary, how it came to be, how it grew, what its basic mission was. What ever I did learn there was disorganized and in bits and pieces."

"Only when I joined “Rotary 101” in the Long Beach Rotary Club did I come to truly appreciate what Rotary is all about. Attending these classes finally taught me what I should know about our organization, its mission, its history, its growth, and all the wonderful work the Rotarians do through out this world of ours."

"I salute your efforts in spreading the “Rotary 101” mission throughout the Rotary world, and I will be very happy to help all I can in this wonderful mission of yours."

"I signed up for Rotary 101 because I thought it would be nice to know some history of the organization that I enjoy so much. At sign up, I was given this BIG book, a class schedule, and a list of assignments. Oh boy, I thought, just what I needed in my busy life."

"Little did I know that attending Rotary 101 was going to be one of the smartest, entertaining, enjoyable experiences that I have spent with an organization in quite a while! First, the big book was actually very interesting. It was easy to read and had lots of history. But, the best part were the classes. Every month we had different presenters from our Rotary Club that not only talked about Rotary International, but also what our own Rotary club was doing at the time. I enjoyed the stories so much that I would go to repeat classes, because no two classes were ever the same!"

"I highly recommend the Rotary 101 program because I know that I am a better Rotarian for having experienced it, and because it was so much fun."

"I joined Rotary about a year before Rotary 101 was offered. I thought the class would be perfect for me to learn more about the history of Rotary and my local club. I got that and much more! I would encourage anyone who hasn’t taken the class to do so. New to Rotary or a friend of Paul Harris, you can learn something about your own club or the wonderful world of Rotary International."

"I truly enjoyed Rotary 101, on a number of levels. It was interesting to learn about the evolution of the organization, from its very humble beginnings in Chicago 100 years ago, to its preeminent position today among world-wide service organizations. In addition, and much closer to home, I learned a great deal about our 90 years as a chapter, and the significant impact we have had on our community and beyond. The presenters had a perspective which helped share and convey that rich history, and were uniformly well chosen for the task."

"I want to thank you for starting the Rotary 101 program. It was a very important learning experience for me and should be required for all new members. I was a past president of another club and I learned more information in Rotary 101 than I did as president of my club."

Rotary 101 gave me an opportunity to feel a part of an important international organization so much larger than ourselves and our own club, and to own a part of its wonderful, rich history. I loved learning how Rotary’s history was so intertwined with American and World History. I truly feel I’m a much more involved Rotarian – both in my own club and in Rotary International."

"Partly because of what I learned in Rotary 101, the reason I am a Rotarian today is much different from the reason I joined Rotary ten years ago. It is a much richer experience now, having learned the history of Rotary, the important achievements of Rotary throughout the world, and its impact on world history. I no longer think of what Rotary can do for me, but what small part I might contribute to the work of Rotary."
